Agriculture Minister Dr. Musa Kpaka concludes Familiarization Tour to AVDP Intervention communities in the East

On January 11-12, 2024, a delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS), led by Minister Dr. Musa Henry Kpaka, embarked on a comprehensive familiarization and field assessment tour. Their journey took them to selected project sites under the Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (AVDP) and the Smallholder Commercialization and Agribusiness Development Project (SCADeP) in the districts of Kono and Kailahun.

The primary objective of this initiative was to establish direct connections between the esteemed “Feed Salone” program and the key stakeholders in the agricultural landscape, including farmers, local councils, paramount chiefs, and other integral participants within the food systems framework.

Minister Kpaka underscored the critical importance of gathering firsthand insights into the agricultural challenges prevailing in these regions. The tour facilitated open discussions and engagements aimed at aligning recommendations for improvement with the practical realities observed on the ground. By immersing themselves in the operations of the AVDP and SCADeP projects, the delegation sought to gain invaluable practical insights that could inform strategic decision-making processes.

Furthermore, the visit served as a platform to nurture partnerships and foster collaborations between MAFS and all stakeholders engaged in agricultural activities. Recognizing the interdependent nature of agricultural development, Minister Kpaka emphasized the significance of collective efforts in driving sustainable progress within the sector.

These concerted endeavors directly align with the overarching objectives of the government’s “Feed Salone Agenda.” Central to this agenda is the steadfast commitment to bolstering agricultural support systems and fortifying food security measures across Sierra Leone. By engaging directly with grassroots stakeholders and project implementers, MAFS aims to catalyze transformative change and lay the groundwork for a resilient and thriving agricultural ecosystem.
