The Agriculture Value Chain Development Project (AVDP) launched an innovative Oil Palm and Cocoa Multi-Stakeholder/ Commodity Value Chain Platform on August 9, 2023, at Albertson in Kenema. The platform was officially launched by AVDP Project Manager Madam Monica Kwame-Greene.

The goal of the platform is to enhance the efficiency, sustainability, and overall growth of the oil palm and cocoa sectors through collaborative efforts. Stimulating growth for the Rural Poor Farmers

In line with the Rural Poor Stimulus Facility (RPSF) initiative, AVDP is supporting to vegetable growers in Koinadugu, Falaba,Port Loko and Karene and the Western Area Rural districts to embark on especially onion and ground nut production.

Sierra Leone’s President Assures IFAD Executive Board

On Friday 25 th November 2022, Executive Board members of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) were assured by President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone that though his government during his first term has started a revolution in education, agriculture will not be left behind. He gave this assurance during a courtesy call at the State House by the board members. They were accompanied by the Resident Coordinator Babatunde Ahonsi, IFAD’s Associate Vice President Donald Brown, and other colleagues. The team’s visit, according to the President, will bring added value to the thinking process of the government in terms of addressing food sufficiency and existing gaps in supporting large-scale agriculture. IFAD In Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone’s economy has proved relatively resilient in the face of two major external shocks: the Ebola epidemic of 2014, and a fall in the price of iron ore, a major export.  After slumping sharply economic growth has resumed, supported by investments in mining, agriculture and fisheries.

Until the outbreak of Ebola in May 2014, Sierra Leone, a country of 7 million people on the West African seaboard, had one of the highest economic growth rates in the world.  After emerging from an 11-year civil war in 2002, the country was rebuilding its governance and economy with the help of international donors. About Us

The Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (AVDP) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry was established on the 16th July, 2019 and will close on the 31st March,2026. The national wide project implementation will span for a period of six (6) years.
