AVDP boosts Market Access and Community Development: 9m Bridge and 3m Span Box Culvert Commissioned in Kailahun District

Today, Thursday, 1st February 2024 at Tangabu and Nyandehun Mambabu communities, Kailahun District, the Agriculture Value Development Chain (AVDP) has brought communities closer in Kailahun district with the commissioning of a 9m bridge in Tangabu and a 3m box culvert in Nyandehun Mambabu. Funded by the government’s adaptation fund and will be constructed by Lela Section Construction and General Services Company, these projects aim to boost market access and community development.

“These bridges and a box-culvert are more than just structures,” said AVDP Project Manager Madam Monica Kwame-Greene. “They connect communities, build resilience in market linkages, and ultimately lead to development. By reducing post-harvest losses and enhancing agribusiness, we can empower farmers and reduce poverty through agriculture as a business.”

The bridge serves as a vital artery connecting prominent communities like Buedu, Kangama, and Dia, and reaching over 10 AVDP intervention communities. Together, the bridge and culvert promise sustainable development by improving safety and market access for farmers.

Paramount chief and council representatives expressed their excitement and appreciation, highlighting the bridge’s crucial role in their chiefdom’s development. They anticipate increased profits through easier market access, contributing to the government’s “Feed Salone” initiative.

Construction is expected to be completed within four months, paving the way for a brighter future for these communities.
