On the 6th-7th October 2020, in Port Loko City, the Agribusiness unit in the project engaged different stakeholders across the country on the establishment of commodity value chain platforms. The event allowed these value chain players to discuss innovation platforms on value chain crops (rice, vegetable cocoa and oil palm). And it was well facilitated by Doctor Ajuba Sheriff, the head of Monitory and Evaluation unit in the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and 80 participants were in attendance.

While calling the meeting to order, the head of Agribusiness, Madam Sinnah Massaquoi welcomed stakeholders for honoring the invitation. Noting that value chain innovation platform is not a new idea and several organisations had tried it but never succeeded. Therefore, she encouraged participants to be honest in pulling out challenges that hinged the progress of previous value chain platforms.
Mr Thomas Bockarie from Local Content said that the rationale in setting up platform is critical in achieving sustainable production and productivity. But for far too long, vain chain players had not be well knowledgeable in actualizing the ideas to benefit farmers.
“Value Chain platform encourage farmers to interact and share experience with buyers and as a result, farmers are well informed in the process and middlemen chain is boycotted during transaction which leverage producers to make good profit”, said Yatta Samah, President of National Farmers Federation (NAFSL).
